Acenocoumarol is a pharmaceutical compound which is used as blood thinner that prevent blood coagulation. Its molecular formula is C19H15NO6 with a molecular weight of 353.3 gram per mol. It is an anticoagulant agent is commonly used to treat blood clots and to prevent stroke in people that are suffering from valvular heart disease or have artificial heart valves. This drug can be used to manufacture medicines in different forms such as pill, tablets or in medical equipments such as heart-lung and dialysis machines. Acenocoumarol prevents the reduction of vitamin K, which results in the reduction of the thrombogenicity of clots. Patients on this drug are not allowed to donate blood.
