Amphotericin B is an anti-fungal or anti-protozoal drug which is used in the medication of various fatal fungal infections. Some of the infections such as aspergillosis, blastomycosis, candidiasis, coccidioidomycosis, and cryptococcosis can be treated using this drug. It is not suitable for minor fungus problems like yeast infection of the mouth and esophagus. Amphotericin B can only be taken as per the doctors prescription as it may lead to several. It is an irritant compound may cause skin, eye and respiratory irritation on single exposure. The drug binds to sterols in the cell membrane of susceptible fungi that allows leakage of intracellular components which ultimately result in death of fungi cell.
